Students' Attitude towards Political Participation and Democratic Values in Nigeria: Critical Democracy Education Implications

This study investigated the attitudes of university students toward political participation, as well four other selected democratic values – freedom and liberty, human rights/human rights protest, corruption resistance, separation powers in Nigeria. A descriptive survey design, with a tool entitled ‘Attitude towards Democratic Values Questionnaire (ADVQ)’, was used to collect data from randomly 250 undergraduate (male = 120; female 130) Six research questions were answered using statistics guiding study. The results showed that reported an unwillingness protest violations tendency accept bribes campaign for wrong candidate financial gains, despite general findings indicated positive all among students. result variance analysis conducted ascertain influence gender on scored significantly higher than their male counterparts measured principles, excepting powers. Implications critical education emphasises consciousness, spatial voting, socio-political resilience are discussed.
